Reds Anchored to Bottom after shattering loss in Townsville

Eugene Galekovic
The North Queensland Fury have defeated Adelaide United 2-1 in a heated encounter at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday Night.

Going into the clash, both sides needed a victory to prevent heading to the bottom of the table - North Queensland coming up with the goods.

Adelaide's assignment was made all the more tougher with coach Aurelio Vidmar in the stands for his first of a two-game touchline ban.

Striker Daniel McBreen was lucky not to score on several occasions with the 'Gate-keeper' Eugene Galekovic producing many stunning saves and single-handedly keeping United in the contest.

Adelaide also had it's own chances especially in the 17th minute through midfielder Adam Hughes who was fed an outstanding ball from Iain Fyfe.

The breakthrough came just five minutes before half time, through McBreen who eventually registered his name on the scoresheet with a thunderbolt.

On the other side of half time former Liverpool striker and Fury captain Robbie Fowler put one past Galekovic, with hardly any celebration.

Adelaide scored a consolation goal in injury time through Brazilian Cristiano, who was brought on as a substitute - surely now looking to get into the first eleven.

Adelaide look to get off the bottom of the table with a clash against the red hot Newcastle Jets who beat Sydney F.C. at the weekend, on Friday Night at Hindmarsh Stadium.
